Dear Friends,

After MUCH thought and consideration, we have finally chosen the new name for our road at Seams Like Home.  This was a very difficult task for me, harder than choosing names for my kids!  The new name is "EMERALD VALLEY ROAD" and the number is 2010, the year in which we moved there.   Now you are wondering who submitted the name and won the free weekend.  Let me explain first how/why we chose the name and then I will tell you who gets the free weekend.  Many names were submitted, and there were some great suggestions.  However, my son, Craig, and I together came up with the name.  He suggested Emerald Fern, because the foliage along the road is so lush and green, and I liked the emerald part of the name.  I didn't like the fern part with it.  So I chose valley because it was named Cedar Valley before, since it sets in a little bit of a valley.  That was the name on the wall where our new sign is now.   I liked Emerald, also, because I feel like Seams Like Home is a jewel.  Now, because I promised a free weekend, and I always try to keep my word, we randomly pulled a name from among all those who took the time to submit a suggestion.  The name that was drawn was Donna Bupp!  Donna just recently moved here from New Castle, and her suggestion was Running Springs Lane, which was the name of the road where she lived in New Castle.  She will be getting a free weekend at Seams Like Home.  Congratulations, Donna!

Now for shop news!  Last week we received 10 new bolts of batiks in various colors and some new jelly rolls.  These jelly rolls only have 20 strips in a roll (rather than 40) and sell for $18.  In most cases, one of these jelly rolls will make a complete purse.  We have a holiday collection in pretty reds/greens with a bit of metallic in them, and we have Cool Blues, which are a variety of jewel-tone blues.

We will soon be redecorating our windows, and we have only one Coming Up Roses kit left-that is the light blue king size quilt in the window with the roses on it.  I can no longer get more of that fabric, so when it is gone, it is gone!

We have two of my favorite Christmas projects for classes this week.  The crazy quilt stocking is fabulous, and so is the Merry Mail Wallhanging-what a useful AND beautiful project!  Be sure to get signed up and don't miss out.  You'll have your items ready to hang and not be stressed when December rolls around!

This project is from Eleanor Burns' book, Christmas at Bear's Paw Ranch. (My personal favorite of all her books!) Make your stocking look Victorian, modern, or traditional based on the scraps you choose to use. Yes, ladies, this is a good project to use up those scraps that you have been wondering what to do with. Crazy quilting is fun and, well, CRAZY! Join us.

This is a really cute AND useful project. Make "envelopes" of fabric and sew onto the decorative wallhanging to hold your Christmas cards and holiday mail. That's why it is called a Merry Mail Wallhanging.
Next week, Connie Soldano and I will be at Viking convention in Minneapolis, but you will still get your weekly update.  I will have my laptop and can email you from there!  Technology is so wonderful-when it works!  Hopefully I can have some photos for you, and hopefully they won't lose my luggage this time!  That could be bad.  Or maybe that could be good, because I understand that the Mall of the Americas is right across from the airport, and I would have a good reason to go on a shopping spree!  I do plan to check it out, but I don't think I'll make every store.  I wonder if they have a quilt shop in there!  I'll let you know.

Several of the ladies who came to the Open House asked about some of the serving dishes that I was using, which came from my daughter-in-law, who is a Celebrating Home designer.  I passed out as many catalogs as I had and ran out.  If you are still interested, you can view her website online and see the product catalog there.  It is www.celebratinghome.com/sites/JenniferEicher.

Please come in and see the new Happy Hollow Trunk Show.  It is fabulous!  And we have rearranged the shop again.  We are making a purse section and I have some other ideas in mind, too.

Keep cool and see you soon!
Sincerely,

Donna
