Dear Friends,
I spent most of the day yesterday in Cranberry, PA, working out the final details for Western Pennsylvania Shop Hop 2012. The dates will be June 20-23, with Passport Preview Party Day on Thursday, April 19. For those of you who are wondering what that is, it is the first day that passports go on sale to the public (remaining at $5). The advantage of purchasing on this one special day is that you get a VIQ sticker (Very Important Quilter). In the past, this sticker signified that you were entitled to an extra FREE pattern at each shop that you visited. This year, I am excited to tell you that we are doing something different. You will get your FREE VIQ gift on the day that you purchase your passport, April 19. The gift is a silver charm bracelet with a special charm that says "SHOP HOP 2012". Then, during Shop Hop, you will get another charm for your bracelet at each participating shop so that you can fill up your bracelet. Each shop's charm will be unique to that shop. There are 10 shops participating in 2012, and the theme is "Around the Town." I think this is going to be the BEST Shop Hop ever! Can't wait!
Last Saturday we canceled the Paper Piecing class with Sue Cook since she had to travel from north of Pittsburgh where they had 6-8" of snow and ice. We will reschedule this class in early April (Saturday, April 7) when the danger of bad weather is past. That means that you can still register for this class if you would like.
The free pattern this week is from South Seas Fabrics using the new Gentle Nature fabric collection. The pattern is for a twin bed quilt in either of two colorways for a boy or a girl. Using cute animal panels, it will go together easily and make a nice quilt for either boys or girls.
And speaking of fabric, I ordered a LOT of new fabric last week-many of it Christmas fabric for the 2012 season, due to arrive in July. Some of the collections set to arrive in the next two months are: Forest Friends flannel, Farmville, Summer Lodge, Painted Desert, Hot Rods Ride Again, Floral Fascination and more. Special fabric for Fat Quarter Fiesta, too. Our supply of Fairy Frost and Bear Essentials have been replenished and are slated to arrive tomorrow-28 bolts in all.
We are busy preparing for our annual fat quarter fiesta held on Super Bowl Saturday. All fat quarters will be one dollar for this sale, despite the rising cost of cotton. Mark your calendar and don't miss it-the date is February 4th.
Please register for Soni Grin'ts software seminar on the 28th. If you have software (4D OR 5D) and don't attend, you will truly miss a lot of valuable information. If you do not have software, but are interested in knowing more of what software can do for your embroidery, please consider coming. Soni will have dongles for you to use and you can follow and work right along with us! It is a great time to "test drive" 5D Embroidery software. Lunch is being provided, so please come.
The new key tags have been ordered and are currently being printed with our logo on them. Once they arrive, we will let you know. When you shop at Sew Special and we scan your tag, your purchase will count toward quarterly incentives such as free classes, product, and even prizes that are exclusive to those with customer loyalty tags. More details coming soon.
Updates for all embroidery machines will be available on the Viking website February 1. The update will allow you to accommodate the new larger Endless Hoop and many other things. Look for it on the Viking website www.husqvarnaviking.com. |

5D Software Event with Soni Grint fromViking
Saturday, January 28, 9am-4pm
Cost: $35 includes lunch
Soni is absolutely the most knowledgeable, personable and FUN software teacher I have ever had the privilege to learn from, and I am so honored to have her come to Sew Special. Soni has been working with Viking software from the onset and has helped in all of the innovations and development of the software through the years. If you own software OR have been considering why you should purchase 5D software, please come on this day and you will have a much better understanding of what you can do. If you have a laptop with the software, please bring it. If not, you can partner with someone who does. This will be an awesome day! |

Midnighter's Club -UFO
Friday, February 3, 6pm
Teacher: Donna Eicher
Cost: $45 per person
Please take note-THIS IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE UFO!! Due to the fact that Soni Grint is coming on January 28 for the software seminar, I didn't want to schedule UFO the night before. After all, our brains would be mush and our eyelids would be heavy for a 9:00am software class after sewing till midnight the night before. Therefore, we are moving UFO up a week AND we are moving it to SEAMS LIKE HOME and offering you the opportunity to spend the night! We will meet at 6:00pm at SLH with snacks at 9:00. Sew as long as you wish-even all night! We will serve a full breakfast at 9:00am and checkout is at 11:00am. There are no classes scheduled for February 4 at Sew Special because it is Fat Quarter Fiesta. You can check out the yardage after breakfast and not miss a thing! We can only accommodate 10 overnight guests, and there are two to a room, so please make your reservation early and request your favorite room. If you wish to come and sew only without staying the night, you may do that as well. Cost would be the standard $20 fee. |

Another thing that I am very happy to inform you of is our new fabric panel display. For a long time I have been quite dissatisfied with the way our panels have been displayed. Left on bolts, you can't tell what they are. Cut one off and pin it to the bolt and it covers up a whole section of fabric. Clip them to the overhead hanger and they get all twisted up. Once, you may remember, we even went so far as to hang them at the ceiling all around the store. It reminded me of the balloons at the Dollar Store. Well, enough of that!! We now have a nice display where they can be seen very well without taking up a great deal of space and becoming a nuisance. You've got to come in and see it. AND, (I would never have believed it!) we have 48 different panels in this store!! Who ordered all this stuff anyway?? Come and check them out.
Please be sure to read the details about our UFO for the month. It will be held at Seams Like Home and you can stay the night if you wish. Details are above.
Rick and I will be heading to Georgia for SewFest on January 29, so we will not be in the store next week on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. I will still send out the weekly update, though, and Claudia, Mary, and Jill will be here to help take care of anything you may need. I do plan to see Debi Gilpin while there and can take any quilt tops along for her to quilt if you have any to send. Please let me know and have them here by January 28. We will have LOTS of new information to share with you after SewFest.
Hope to see you soon! Donna Sew Special |
