Serging with Confidence: Trapunto-Style Tote

Cover stitch on your serger to create this stylish textured tote!  We will apply a Trapunto-like technique, cutting small openings in the lowest layer of three, then filling to create a raised surface design.  On the final step, filled top layers are cut away, to reveal the middle layer.  The detail on this project takes several hours, but is well worth the result!
Supplies:  1/2 yd. medium weight woven for top layer; 1 yd. medium or slightly heavier weight complimentary fabric for lining; 1/2 yd. of batting (such as Warm & Natural); 6" x 6" piece of lightweight fusible interfacing or stabilizer; Optional 1 yd. webbing for handles (Deb will provide instructions to make fabric handles); large handful of polyfil stuffing (Deb will supply this); 4 threads (cone thread or regular weight spools--must coordinate with top fabric and lining); size 90 needles to fit your serger; rotary cutter; fabric marker; appliqué or small trimming scissors; seam ripper; Optional double-eyed needle and travel iron, if you prefer your own to the ones in the store.  If you own a special cover stitch foot, please bring it along--it is also optional.  Also, most sergers require a special accessory or more to convert to cover stitching.  Please be sure to bring your manual and any needed accessories!  Last, pack a lunch or bring money to order out...it will truly be a fun day!
