Serging with Confidence: Chain Stitching
We see chain stitches everywhere these days, from colorful jeans hems to decoration on pillow tops, placemats and even Christmas stockings—like our special “Christmas in July” project!!! (Please be certain your serger has a chain stitching option. It is usually one of the coverstitch options. Available current models Huskylock S21, S25 and Pfaff coverlock 3.0 and 4.0. Use choice of purchased Christmas stocking panel or regular fabrics for project.
Option #1: Christmas Stocking Panel

3/8 yd lining fabric
1 spool decorative thread for chain stitch (like Quilt Highlights Metallic/Rayon available at Sew Special)—this is a thicker multi-strand metallic thread
3 or 4 regular serger threads for constructing stocking with serger
Option #2: Fabric of Choice for Stocking

1/4 yd fabric for stocking
1/4 yd fabric for lining
1/4 yd fabric for stocking band
5” length of 1/2” ribbon
3 or 4 regular serger threads for constructing stocking with serger
